about
Finnish-American singer/songwriter Jonathan Rundman and Finnish actor Carl-Kristian Rundman have co-written a song and collaborated on a music video, to be released on October 23, 2020. These international cousins present the Finnish-language folk/pop song “Lanka (The Thread)” with music by Jonathan and lyrics by Carl-Kristian.
Carl-Kristian recalls, “Inspired by Jonathan’s beautiful piece of music, I wrote the Finnish lyrics. I found myself pondering about the circle (or in this case, the thread) of life, continuing through us all.” After receiving Carl-Kristian’s lyrics from Finland, Jonathan began the process of recording a studio version of the song in Minneapolis. Since Jonathan cannot speak (or sing!) in Finnish, three Finnish vocalists based in Minnesota, Elina Kala, Elina Koivusaari, and Ulla Tervo-Desnick, provided the lead vocals on the recording.
In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, and with musical and theatrical gigs on hold, Jonathan and Carl-Kristian collaborated with family members to produce a trans-Atlantic music video for the song. The video was directed by Jonathan’s 16-year-old son Paavo, and stars Jonathan’s 14-year-old daughter Svea. Carl-Kristian’s mother-in-law Terttu appears in the video as well, filmed in the scenic archipelago of Finland.
lyrics
vanhempani, lapseni, mun oman historian
Jatkuvuuden ikuisen, olen siinä lenkki vain
lapseltani lahjaksi sen tietoisuuden sain
